Protecting Seniors
Senate District 4 is home to the second largest population of senior citizens in the state of Utah, following the St. George area. While serving in the Legislature, I have sponsored and passed landmark legislation that protects vulnerable adults from financial exploitation, abuse and neglect. I also sponsored legislation which created the Utah commission on aging, which has been instrumental in bringing to the table the advocates for our senior population. That commission acts as a resource and spawns new legislation that provides advocacy for our senior population in Utah.
I recognize an inherent need to support and protect those who have worked hard all their lives. And it’s going to become more important as the senior population explodes in the next ten years.
The 65+ age group is the fastest growing age demographic in the country. And the Utah growth rate is about double the national average!
